How long should my hair be for waxing?
Our hot wax can remove hair as short as 1mm in length and our strip wax can remove hair as short as 2mm however this generally applies to hair that has had regular waxing. If this is your first time waxing or waxing in between shaving then we suggest at least 4-5 weeks hair growth. Clients that have not waxed or shaved for a long period of time need not worry as our therapists will trim the hair to a suitable length for waxing.
What type of bikini waxes do you offer?
Basic bikini – Hair is removed from the top and sides of the bikini area.
G-string – Little more removed than a basic bikini. Hair is removed from the top and then follows the line of a g-string underneath.
Brazilian – Removes all of the hair from underneath and leaves only a strip or small triangle of hair in front (hair is also removed from the area between the buttocks).
Hollywood – Everything off!
What is the etiquette for the various types of waxing on offer?
Basic bikini: you will be given the option to wear disposable paper pants or your own pants. G-string: (same as basic) but g-string pants are advised should you choose to wear your own. Brazilian: we recommend that you remove your pants however if you are not comfortable with this we will provide you with a disposable paper pants and the treatment may take slightly longer. Hollywood: (same as above) *If you choose to wear your own pants JM Waxing cannot take responsibility for any oil or wax spillage onto the fabric.
Can I still have a bikini wax when I am on my period?
Absolutely! You will need to wear a freshly changed tampon before going into your treatment. (you may use our toilet facilities beforehand to freshen up)
I’m pregnant can I still be waxed?
Waxing during pregnancy is very popular especially now that people know that our wax is less painful. At JM Waxing we are trained to ensure that all parts of the body are waxed comfortably and safely. The Brazilian or Hollywood wax is a very popular treatment one week before your due date.
Does it hurt?
Every person has different pain thresholds and so experience waxing differently, however with regular waxing most clients find it becomes easier as the hairs become thinner, lighter and sparser after a few regular treatments. Our specialised Lycon hot wax and expertly trained/experienced therapist makes waxing as pain-free as possible. If you have a particularly low pain threshold a couple of Nurofen tablets half an hour before the treatment time can help to reduce pain.
How long will the waxed area be hair free?
You may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results. To maintain your smooth appearance, we recommend regular waxing every 4 -5 weeks.
Will it be uncomfortable afterwards or left sticky?
Since we use Lycon which is a very high quality wax and have a highly skilled therapist our treatments should leave you with minimal discomfort. When the treatment is finished the therapist will ensure no wax or residue has been left on the skin. Since we use hot wax, skin will not be sticky (which can sometimes happen with strip wax).
What after-care do I need to follow?
Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 hours. This means:
No hot baths or showers (warm water only).
No saunas, hot tubs, or steam treatments.
No tanning (sunbathing, sunbeds, or fake tans).
No sport, gym work, or other strenuous exercises.
Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.
Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions, or other products to the area, other than those recommended by your therapist for 24 hours.
Exfoliate every 4-7 days commencing 3 days after your waxing treatment.
Please note: some slight soreness, small bumps, and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over 24-48 hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
